ECTS, credit awards

ECTS: CREDIT AWARDS
The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system based on the student workload of each to achieve the objectives of a programme, objectives preferably specified in terms of learning outcomes and competences to be acquired. The aim is to facilitate the planning, delivery, evaluation, recognition and validation of the qualifications and learning units, and enable student mobility. The ECTS is widely used in the higher education sector and can be applied to other long-term learning activities. All the Bachelor and Master Courses at the “Gesualdo da Venosa” Conservatoire in Potenza have introduced the ECTS system.

Every study programme is based on study plans which account for 60 ECTS credits per academic year. One ECTS credit is gained for each 25 hours of study (17 in workshops and 8 either face to face or in group lessons).

The division of ECTS credits per course unit is based on the workload necessary to reach the required standard. The ECTS assume that 60 credits measure the workload of a full-time student spread over the academic year. A student’s results reflect what they should know, understand and be able to perform after the completion of the study programme.

The workload refers to the time considered necessary for an average student to achieve the required standard.
